Synopsis
(To gain access to the entire script, please contact Scott Smoot via email: scott@smootpage.com)
Act
One
Scene one
In a board room, civic leaders Rick,
Sheree, J.W., and the imperious Holly fight
over the future of their respective districts by re-arranging
icons on the town's map. Mayor Vivien enters
with her personal secretary Donna and
her chauffeur Wingfield (on
loan to her from the penitentiary), and proposes a wilderness
retreat to learn better cooperation. They are to be guided by Ernest,
the author of a recent bestselling book about management, and by
"the Colonel," head
of the company Wild Abandon.
Scene two
Teams of executives find their way to base camp with less help
and fewer supplies than they had been told to expect.
Scene three
At a camp site prepared by Wingfield and Donna, the party gradually comes
to realize that they've been tricked, left far from civilization,
whereabouts unknown. Their money, credit cards, cell phones, and
identities have all been stolen by the phony but aptly named Wild
Abandon company. By the end of the act, the prisoner Wingfield
is asserting leadership over all the others, and Holly resists longest, but finally acknowledges her dependence on him.
Act
Two
Scene four
Six months later, having survived the winter and even thrived,
the party has reconfigured itself as a productive colony under
the strong leadership of "the Commander," Wingfield. All the men woo Donna; all the women desire Wingfield.
Now that they have the resources to make the trek back to
civilization, some are not sure that they want to leave.
Wingfield proposes to stay with Holly. But unexpectedly, the opportunity for immediate
rescue arrives, and Wingfield takes it -- though rescue will mean
his return to jail.
Scene five
Months later, Ernest has become a celebrity with his best-selling account of their ordeal. Talk-show host Gabby Simon arranges a reunion of those involved, and her skeptical questions probe at the truth behind the book -- truths that could end all of their careers. They cover up, but then she reveals a surprise guest from the penitentiary, honest Wingfield. Once again, he saves them all, while remaining true to himself.
