Snow
Here's a snapshot of little Luis, who enjoys eating snow off the deck. Then there's a photo of the view from my screened in patio.

Actress Remembers 7th Grade "Juliet" Photo of Lauren Jones from MSNBC MediaLauren Jones has kindly given credit to the drama teacher at St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Jackson, Mississippi, who coached her through her stage debut in "Romeo and Juliet." That was yours truly! In recent years, she has appeared in Hollywood movies including Spiderman III (as a reporter), and Anger Management; in a partially scripted, partially improvised reality series called "Anchorwoman," she played the title role. She has her own fashion line, and she models fashions. More information at her website. | Big Screen - High Def - Surround Sound Opera! | | | It took me years to learn to appreciate opera, but seeing it live on the big screen makes it easy to fall in love with opera. Appreciation

Friday October 2, 2009 was "Faculty Appreciation Night" at the Walker School's Football Game. Coach Ben Williamson asked me to be there, but he didn't warn me that it would mean so much.
Here's part of the text read at the football game Friday, while I stood with three other teachers in players' jerseys:
Freshman linebacker and fullback Patrick McPherson chose to honor Walker teacher Scott Smoot. Patrick writes: 'Mr. Smoot has been the most influential teacher I have ever had. He is a teacher who has really made me push myself. His class has really helped me develop a passion for history and enthusiasm for school. Everyday Mr. Smoot was as fast-paced and intense as any teacher I would see that day. Mr. Smoot is by far my favorite teacher and I can't thank him enough for what he did for me.'
Patrick chose the words I have most wanted to hear from a student. As Principal Blair Fisher observed, it's especially meaningful coming from Patrick, who is a perceptive judge of character.
So it is my turn to express appreciation.
